Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They are available by booking an appointment via reception. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks, wound care and dressings. The practice nurses also run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, stroke and high blood pressure. They also carry out cervical screening tests. We have a skill mix within our nursing team and it is important that we know what you wish to consult the nurse about so we may book you in with the correct nurse. We also have a health care support worker who is trained to carry out some clinical work e.g. take blood, measure blood pressure, staple removal, simple dressings, administer B12 injections and assist in our annual flu vaccination programme. Our health care support worker is rigorously trained in each clinical area in which she works and adheres to strict protocols set up by the practice. When arranging an appointment, please inform the receptionist the type of appointment you wish e.g. ear syringing, dressing, removal of sutures, cervical smear etc. This enables the receptionist to allocate you to the appropriate member of the nursing team. |
