Appointments

Appointments can be made by telephone on 772 4744 or by calling in at the reception desk.  You will be offered the first available appointment with the doctor of your choice.  Earlier appointments may be available if you have no doctor preference. 

If more than one person requires to be seen please make a separate appointment for each patient.

Urgent appointment or advice

If you feel you need to be seen or speak to a GP on the same day, please call before 10.30am, the GP's have trained the Reception staff to ask further question so the Doctor can prioritise their calls. We would kindly ask that if you have a routine query you call after 10.30am to free up the phone lines. Thank you

Extended Hours

The practice offers appointments during extended hours, these appointments are available on a Monday evening between 17:30 – 18:15 and Friday's with our ANP from 07:30-08:30.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly. Three practice nurses work within the surgery, and are available during opening hours. The services of a phlebotomist is also available 5 days per week. 

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:30 (with the exception of emergencies).

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

Training Practice

The practice is recognised for training purposes. From time to time, a medical/nursing student may be present. You will be made aware of this when making your appointment. 

Postgraduate Training

As part of our involvement with medical education we are involved in GP Registrar training.  A GP Registrar is a fully qualified doctor who has been working within the hospital setting for a number of years.  The purpose of this training is to equip them for working within a General Practice.  The GP Registrar is with us for one year and over that time is gradually incorporated into the services provided by the practice.  They have a named GP supervisor at all times.

Nurse Training

Occasionally the practice supports nurse training.  These are students from Glasgow Caledonian who are either studying to gain a nursing qualification or may be extending their skills in more specialised fields such as district nursing or public health nursing.

Foundation Year

These are doctors in the second year of their post graduate training who spend four months in the practice.  They will have a GP supervisor within the practice who they will be able to refer to at all times.  The purpose of their time within the practice is to expose them to  the primary care  setting and allow them to develop knowledge and insight into primary care at an early stage in their career.

If a video camera is to be used during the consultation, for training purposes only, you will be given every opportunity to see the doctor without it if that is your choice.
